About Gorkha Brewery

Nepal, the mystical, Himalayan kingdom has a culture and heritage unique in the world. Although in the past beer brewing was not traditionally been an integral part of Nepal's culture, it has - over the last 25-30 years, become increasingly popular. Bottled beer was first introduced to Nepal in the later part of the 20th century, when few traders imported it for special, occasional consumption. Till 1989, only local beer brands were available and the entire industry was below 75,000 HL per annum.

In 1989, Gorkha Brewery (P) Ltd. was established. A joint collaboration between leading Nepalese business house-Khetan group and the Danish multinational company Carlsberg Breweries, Copenhagen. Gorkha Brewery was and continues to be one of the largest single foreign investments in Nepal.

Tuborg, the first international brand was launched in Nepal in 1990 followed by Carlsberg in 1995 and Royal Danish Tuborg Strong beer in 2002. Gorkha Brewery acquired the brand San Miguel (As per license agreement with San Miguel Brewing International Ltd., Philippines) in 2004 and launched Gorkha Beer -The Authentic Himalayan Brew in 2006.

Gorkha Brewery changed the Nepal beer industry forever. Over the past 20 years, the Company has grown to become the market leader, holding more than a 75% share of Nepal's beer market.

In 2006 Gorkha Brewery launched Jolly Shandy and Jolly Lemonade and thus diversified itself from brewery to beverage company.
